JUSTICE
The English have given the world the system of English law that has its origins in Anglo-Saxon times. Two of its hallmarks are its preference for customary law (the common law), and its system of application by locally appointed part-time magistrates, by locally chosen juries, and by the travelling judges going from one county town to another on circuit.
Other aspects of the English law are the fundamental assumption that an accused person is deemed innocent until proved guilty and the independence of the judiciary from intervention by crown or government in the judicial process.
The legal system is divided into civil and criminal courts. The House of Lords is the ultimate court of appeal for both civil and criminal cases. At the base of the criminal court system, the magistrates’ courts try more than 97 percent of the criminal cases. More serious criminal cases then go to the Crown Court, which has 90 branches in different towns and cities. In 1971 the Crown Courts replaced the individual courts, and it is now a single court that may sit anywhere in England, deal with any trial on indictment, and hear appeals and proceedings either on a sentence or on civil matters. Civil cases are dealt with in County courts. Certain cases may be referred to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
The legal system of Great Britain also includes juvenile courts which deal with offenders under seventeen, and coroners’ courts which investigate violent or unnatural death. Tribunals deal with professional standards, disputes between individuals, and between individuals and government departments.

Семья Раянов, после долгого и сложного года,
решила поехать в отпуск. Они долго выбирали место отдыха. Родители хотели
поехать в горы, а дети на море. Вдруг отец вспомнил о своем дальнем
родственнике, который живет в городе возле моря и гор. С местом отдыха было
решено. Родители купили билеты на корабль. Спустя три дня они собрались и
поехали в порт. День был солнечным и ясным. Ничто не предвещало беды. После
отплытия все разошлись по каютам, чтобы расположиться и отдохнуть. Раяны
разложили свои вещи, но в каюте было очень жарко и они рещили выйти подышать
свежим морским воздухом. На палубе распологалось небольшое кафе, где они и
присели отдохнуть. Спустя некоторое время поднялся ветер. Они не обратили на
него внимания и остались на палубе. Ветер становился всё сильней и сильней. На
море начался шторм. Он был настолько сильным, что корабль стал неуправляемым.
Его бросало из стороны в сторону, пока он не налетел на скалу. В корпусе судна
образовалась трещина и оно начало тонуть. Когда семью выбросило в море, оказалось,
что они успели ухватиться за крышку стола и тем самым спаслись. Вскоре
буря утихла и Раяны доплыли до берега. После небольшого отдыха они
почувствовали голод. На берегу росло несколько пальм с плодами. Семья немного
перекусила и пошла изучать остров. Исследования не дали результатов: на острове
не было ни одной живой души. Всё это напомнило им жизнь всеобщеизвестного
Робинзона Крузо и они стали жить по его примеру. Спустя несколько недель на
горизонте появился корабль. Он плыл не слишком далеко от берега,
поэтому Раяны решили, что люди на корабле увидят дым от их костра,
поднимающийся высоко в небо. Так и случилося. Корабль направился к берегу. Так
как судно могло застрять на мели , то им спустили шлюпку и они доплыли до
корабля.Спустя двое суток Раяны удачно добрались домой. Для них это был
незабываемый отпуск.
