Every city has one or more zoos. For a while, people think that a zoo is no useful purpose. If I were faced with this issue, I would think that zoos are

useful. In the following discussion, I would like to reason and provide evidence to support my viewpoint. The first reason is that zoos are often used as places to preserve the endangered species, such as the giant pandas and tigers. It is the conservation of animals that is the most important function of a zoo. With the advances in reproductive technologies, which assist in breeding captive animals, the zoo has become the most important place for animal conservation. Thanks to zoos, certain species of animals have been saved from extinction. Such animals are bred in captivity and when they are ready to survive in the wild, are reintroduced to their original habitat - in the rain forests of Brazil, for instance. In the second place, children can obtain direct knowledge about a variety of animals by visiting zoos. They can see what a tiger is like, hear various sounds of birds and tell one animal from another. If there is no such a place, how can they make contact with animals? They may never have a chance to see various animals even though they learn many from books. When I was a little girl, I liked animals very much, especially birds. But I could not feed them for myself, so the zoo which was located near my home was the place I went to most frequent. And I really love these places. Finally, a zoo is a place for fun. In fact, this is why it is so good at educating the public about the importance of conserving wildlife and the environment: it puts fun into education. Seeing pictures is not the same as seeing animals at close up. What makes visiting a zoo so enjoyable is our close contact with them. Therefore a zoo not only attracts many tourists from other countries, it also allows us to see, without having to leave home, big cats and exotic animals of distant countries. In summary, I believe that a zoo has some useful purposes to serve: to preserve the endangered species, to educate the public about wildlife, and for its visitors to have fun. So a zoo of course is a useful place for us and we should have them.

Scotland is a country in the United Kingdom to the north of England. Its symbol is a thistle; its patron is St. Andrew. The country is divided into Highlands and Lowlands. Most of the industry is concentrated in Lowlands, in the Clyde Valley. Glasgow is its largest and busiest town; Edinburgh is its capital. Glasgow and Edinburgh are the two great centres of Scotland. There is only 45 miles between them, and it will take you an hour to get from Glasgow to Edinburgh by train but the cities are very different.
Glasgow is the heart of industry. It is a centre of business and trade. It is very busy, prosperous, dirty in some parts and smart in others. It is beautiful and ugly with its large port and busy streets.
Edinburgh is rather cold but attractive, very proud but friendly and has a great past. Edinburgh is known as Athens of the North. It is an ancient city and if you walk around it, you can feel history at every step. Practically every building has a tale to tell.
The most interesting parts of the city are the Old Town and the New Town. The Old Town lies between the Castle and Holyrood Palace. The Castle hangs over the city like some Disney cartoon – but it is real. The Castle, in fact, is older than the city. No one can say exactly say when the first settlers came to live on the huge rock that stands high above Edinburgh. Later they built a castle that used to be a fortress and then a royal palace. It looks good in any weather but at night when it is floodlit it looks just like a castle in a fairy tale. It is not surprising that the Castle attracts a lot of tourists. The Edinburgh military tattoo takes place every August and September and is known throughout the world. For 90 minutes on five or six nights a week, 600 people perform in the square in front of the Castle.
The performers play military music and march to it. At the same time as the tattoo, you can go to the famous Edinburgh festival. The festival started in 1947. Every year the best performances from all over the world can be seen in Edinburgh.
A line of streets, which runs from the Castle to Holyrood House, is called the Royal Mile. Holyrood House is a big royal palace which is the residence of the Queen when she is in Edinburgh. The most picturesque part of the Royal Mile is the Cannongate, which gives a good idea of what the Old Town was like. Closes (narrow passages) lesd to little years and attractive historical buildings. One of the most modest and yet one of the best known monuments in Edinburgh is a monument to a dog called Bobby. The dog belonged to John Gray. When he died Bobby lived near his grave for twenty-six years. Later Bobby was buried near his master and his statue in the Old Town has become a symbol of devotion. The Old Town is a striking contrast to the New Town with its white and beautiful streets lined with trees. Princes Street is the most beautiful street of the New Town. It has at lot of gardens on one side and it is also Edinburgh’s popular shopping centre. Princess Street is connected with the name of the famous writer, Sir Walter Scott. A monument 200 feet high rises among green trees. They call it a poet of stone. It is the Scott monument. Inside it there is a marble statue of the writer, and of his favourite dog.
Princess Street lies between the New Town and the Old Town. The modern town is on the lower side, the old one – on the higher. They look at each other across the valley under Scotland’s blue sky.

Religion flourishes in some form in all human societies. Many of the everyday customs and practices of some nations have roots in religion. Even in the West, where there are generally no strict religious rules of life, many still go to church, temple, or syn¬agogue to take part in ritualistic ceremonies.
These ceremonies, also called "religious services", include such things as weekly or daily prayer meetings, special gatherings during the year to celebrate important religious events, special events such as weddings and funerals, and services which celebrate a child's development from childhood to adulthood.
Since people are basically the same all over the world, the types of events celebrated are not surprisingly the same as well from religion to religion. However, the special clothing and robes worn, the special language used, the preparation and types of food and drink consumed, the songs sung, the prayers and chants repeated, the architecture and design of the houses of worship, the interior decorations celebrating the religion, and much more, vary greatly from religion to religion, creating the "ritualistic ceremonies" unique to each religion.
One of the most important functions of any religion is to help explain the unknown. What is the origin of the world? What happens when we die? What is the purpose of life? What is in the distant heavens? Is there a need for suffering? Questions like these have required a special kind of answer, one that turns to some idea of a world outside our own, a world of spirits, perhaps, or of gods and goddesses. Such a world needs interpretation, and the religious leader has traditionally fulfilled the role of the interpreter and mediator between the supernatural and natural worlds. In addition, the religious leader stands guard over the tradition of which he is a part, by teaching the rituals of the religion to future generations, by performing services using these, very rituals, and by making sure that the laws and values of his religion are correctly understood and enforced by its followers.
But religion is not there simply to provide answers to traditional questions about religious practices and spirituality. A religion can provide the moral fabric or structure for the people of a nation. That is: it can guide its people on what is important in life; it can help them cope with everyday problems; and it can establish what are considered to be "accepted" ways of dealing with individuals or groups in many different situations. A religion can be very helpful in creating a sense of order and stability for the mind.
If the religion is too rigid in its beliefs, and intolerant of other religions and cultures, the people of a nation can be too rigid as well in their beliefs and intolerant of others
