telephone manners: 1. When talking on the telephone – speak clearly, not too fast but not too slowly either. Take your cigarette out of your mouth, and do not shout. If it is a casual or a business talk you need to sound friendly. A smile will make your voice pleasant, friendly, accommodating, and attending. 2. Make sure that your conversation with a busy person is a brief as possible. List key points you want to make in note form before you place the call. Check off each point as the call moves along. Then you will never forget what you wanted to say and will not keep another person on the phone too long. 3. When calling a friend or a person who knows you but does not recognize your voice – do not play a guessing name: “Guess who?”. Announce yourself promptly. 4. When you get a wrong number do not ask: “ What number is this?” It is a good manner to ask: “Is this two-three-four-six?” If not – apologize. 5. If a wrong-number call comes through do not lose your temper. Simply say: “Sorry, wrong number” – and hang up. Do not bang the receiver. 6. Always identify yourself when making a call, especially if you are calling on business: “This is Mrs Smith from the head post-office. Could I speak to Mr Jones?” 7. If you have a visitor, do not carry on a long chat while your visitor tries hard to avoid listening to your conversation. The best thing to do is to say you are busy at the moment.

Read and translate the text. DIFFERENT TYPES OF TELEPHONE SYSTEMS. The word telephone comes from the Greek words tele, meaning

“far,” and phone, meaning "sound," and refers to a telecommunications device that allows the human voice to travel across great distances. There are different types of telephones and corresponding types of telephone systems. The three main types of telephone systems are Plain Old Telephone Service, cellular wireless phones, and Internet
Protocol phones.
Landline telephone systems are part of the Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), the analog service with copper wiring that is the direct great-grand-baby of the original telephone system courtesy of Alexander Graham Bell. The advantages include standardized equipment, predictable sound quality, and — due to direct connections to the central office of the company — no need to share the system’s capacity with
others. Because switches are in place, creating a private circuit for each phone call, it is also called the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). A new-fangled term, given the recent alternatives, is “landlines.”
Another of the types of telephone systems is for cellular wireless phones, with individual companies having their own networks with varying technology. Like POTS systems, cellular wireless telephone systems are full-duplex systems, meaning that both people on the call can talk at the same time, but cell phones use radio frequencies, rather than copper wire. Though cellular networks began as mobile voice networks only, they now carry both voice and data. Some networks are national,
while others are international, and new technologies are continually in development. The networks known as 3G support not only cell phones, but also netbook computers, smartphones, and wireless modem aircards.
Internet Protocol (IP) telephone systems, also called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), are another group of the telephone systems that are in use in the 21st century. This type of telephone service piggy-backs on existing Internet service, either cable service or DSL broadband. A device called an Analog Telephone Adaptor is the go between that connects whatever phone you happen to have with either your broadband modem – or your router, if you have one.
IP systems can be set up with a single line for both Internet and telephone service, which can save money.
With an Integrated T1 line, instead of being set up for voice, on the one hand, or data, on the other, the T1 line is able to handle both. With Dynamic T1, the line is capable of assigning bandwidth as needed, given the current use.

Management is a process used to achieve certain goals through the utilization of resources: people, money, energy, materials, space, and time.

Administrative management is an approach that focuses on principles that can be used by management to coordinate the internal activities of organizations.

For years, managers have considered decision making to be a pure art. It has been considered an art because a variety of individual styles can be used in approaching and successfully solving the same type of managerial problems in actual business practice. These styles are often based on creativity, judgment, intuition, and the experience rather than on the systematic analytical approach.

However, the environment in which management must operate is changing. A man has long since landed on the moon, and technological advancement dictates the pace of our life. Such advances in technology cannot possibly be made without concurrent advances in the systems of management.

Business and its environment are more complex today than ever before, and the trend toward increasing complexity is continuing. So making decisions today is much more complicated than in the past for three reasons. First, the number of alternatives is usually much larger. Second, the consequences of the decisions are more difficult to predict due to increased uncertainty. Finally, the cost of making errors has become larger and larger, mainly due to the size of operations, automation, and a resulting chain - reaction situation in which the impact of an error may be felt on many places due to complex interrelationships.

To illustrate how critical the impact of a single error can be, consider the following example. In the early 80s, the management of Polaroid decided to invest millions of dollars in developing a new camera, SX-70. The justification for the huge investment was the anticipation of large profits from the sale of film for the camera. On July 2, 1985, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged almost 16 points and closed at a low for the year of 790. The major contributor to the fall was the drop in Polaroid, a once highly priced glamour issue that fell ll3/g points, a decline of 32 percent, in a single day! The drop was attributed to an announcement that the sales of SX-70 film were only one third of the company's projections. The plunge reduced the value of Polaroid shares by more than 360 million USD overnight! The impact was so significant that even though Polaroid did not file for the bankruptcy, its earnings declined for several years.

Managers must become more sophisticated - they must learn to utilize new tools and techniques that are being developed in their field. No one can imagine a successful physician using the medicine and equipment of the turn of the century. Yet, in management, one can find executives using management tools of that time.

проверьте грамматику и исправьте ошибки. The interaction of different management systems can lead to serious problems. Management syste

m in Russia, England and Germany is formed in different historical conditions. The differences in the culture of work are the most dangerous enemy for collaboration. If a company fails to cooperate with a foreign partner, it's bad for the status of the company, which must compete in the market.

The head is the expert.

The first problem understands the different ways to advancement on a career ladder. It affects quality of a management. If Germany's leaders believe that they earn credibility through their "expert knowledge", the Russian managers rely on personal connections. This is the problem duty performance. I believe that the most effective way to solve this problem is to introduce a common standard of knowledge managers. I insist on the fact that the manager should not only be a good leader, but a good performer.

Relation to innovations.

The second problem is the point that some of the management systems are not able to adapt quickly to new conditions. This is more pronounced in the German system of management. If cooperation is necessary to the company, you should apply to specifics of culture of their partners with respect. You will not be rushed business partners, because that you show that you do not respect their culture.

In the conclusion, I would like to note that there are no hard barriers for collaboration with foreign companies. Middle managers need to know the culture of his business partner and to be able give in. Managers need to be a "cultural chameleon" and mobile experts.
