One day Mrs. Kraus said, "My house is too old. It is too big for me. It has too many cupboards. The garden is too big. And the apple-tree gives too much shade."
Mrs. Kraus said, "I want to move."
She put on her hat and went to see a man who sold houses for people. She said, "Please sell my house. Please show me a new house that I can buy."
The man said, "O.K."
He took Mrs. Kraus in his car. They drove off. In ten minutes they stopped in front of a house.
The man said, "Look at this house. How do you like it?"
Mrs. Kraus said, "Well, this is a nice house. But it look so small... Have you got a bigger house?"
The man said, "Yes, I have."
They went to another house.
The man said, "How about this house?"
Mrs. Kraus said, "Well, this is big enough. But it hasn't any cupboards. Where shall I put my best plates with the nice pink flowers on them? Have you got a big house that has a few cupboards?"
The man said, "Yes, I have."
They went to see another house.
Mrs. Kraus said, "This house is big and it has enough cupboards. But it is so new! I am afraid I'll fall on my nose on this new floor. I am too old for a new house. Have you got a big and not a new house, that has a few cupboards for my plates?"
The man said maybe he had.
They went around to see it.
Mrs. Kraus said sadly, "I wanted to plant a few flowers. But there isn't a place for my flowers!"
They went to see another house.
Mrs. Kraus said, "It is big enough. It has cupboards for my plates. It isn't too new. It has a place for my flowers. But it looks so hot without a bit of shade!"
She said, "Have you got any other houses? "
The man said, "I have got one more house for sale. It is big enough. It has many cupboards. It isn't new. It has a garden, and a big tree for shade."
Mrs. Kraus said, "Oh, why don't you show me that house?"
The man said, "I shall."
He took Mrs. Kraus in his car. They drove off. In ten minutes he stopped in front of a house.
Mrs. Kraus looked.
It was her own house! And it looked so good!
Mrs. Kraus said, "I never knew I had such a nice house! I think I'll stay here forever!"
She went into her house. And she sang all the songs she knew, because she was so glad to be at home!

people should have many friends as possible, because if you have not friends, you just become very dull and boring person. It is fine when you have friends, who are able to understand you and support and help in difficult situations. We have much in common and we enjoy communicating with each other. One of my friends is Sergey. He is thirteen. I can say that he is a good guy. He is a schoolboy. He wants to be a businessman like his father. He studies well, but he is not a hardworking person. When we gather together we like to play computer games, to watch new movies and discuss them. His favourite subject at school is Maths. He is keen on Maths. I guess he might become a great mathematician, but he wants to be like his father. We are friends for a long time. We trust each other. We have some personal secrets. I can tell him about my troubles and he always helps me, if he can.I'm happy to have such a good friend as Sergey.

school in Russia. They want to know how to learn English. Mr Grams: English isn't too difficult. Everybody can learn it. Your English, for example, is very good. Misha: Oh, thanks, Mr Grams. But I started to learn English when I was really young. A lot of my friends think that it's too late to start now. They have only four years left (у них осталось всего 4 года) before they finish school. Mr Grams: It's not too late. Four years is more than enough. If your motivation is good, you'll soon make progress. Misha: What will they have to do then? They don't have enough money for private schools and trips abroad. Mr Grams: They don't have to do those things. But they'll have to work on their English as often as they can. First of all, they should buy a good dictionary, because they will have to read a lot of books. But they shouldn't start with English newspapers or books which may be too difficult for beginners. They should ask their English teacher for adapted versions of English books When they read, they should start a vocabulary notebook and write down all the new words with the translations. It is very important to write down examples of the sentences with the new words too. When you do that, you can remember the place of the word in the sentence, which prepositions or articles go with it, and remember it in context. Misha: Should they watch films in English? Mr Grams: They can try, but they shouldn't get upset if they can't understand anything. They'll have to watch the same film again and again until they understand better. It is also a good idea to get a copy of the same film in Russian. Misha: Is that all? Mr Grams: Oh, no. They should listen to English cassettes and repeat things after the speakers. That will improve their pronunciation and their ability to understand. Misha: But they are always listening to our teacher. Her English is very good. Isn't that enough? Mr Grams: Unfortunately, it isn't. They have to listen to different accents. If they always listen to the same person, they won't be able to understand other people. So if they aren't able to talk to native speakers, they'll have to use the cassettes! Misha: And what about grammar? They learn a lot of grammar rules by heart. Mr Grams: You don't have to do that. Grammar is very important, of course, but they have to use it, not simply learn the rules. However, they should learn texts and songs by heart. Then they will have longer phrases, not only words in their memory. Misha: Thank you very much, Mr Grams. You're my favourite teacher. Mr Grams: That's very kind of you, Misha.
