before then. The modern Olympic Games began in 1896. America hosted the modern Olympics 4 times, Australia twice, and in 1980 it was Moscow that hosted the Summer Olympic Games.

No Olympics were held in 1916, 1940 and 1944 because of war. The Winter Olympics began in 1924, originally the same year as the summer competition, but now are held on alternate years. The Olympic Games have сhanged over time and regulated by the International Olympic Committees. Almost every sport, from archery to yachting, is included in the Games and it continues to be the world's largest sports event.

Ales: Through wars and through peace to now. This is the first photo of just a hand that I

took, and it came about by accident. I was driving this lady to a clinic, and we had to wait in a car park. I had my camera in my lap (you know how you do in case something photographic turns up,) when I happened to notice the light falling on her hand that was guarding her handbag. Camera on lap, screen facing up looking down for a rough sighting and auto-focus, I managed a shot before she moved. Imagine my delight (and surprise) when this image came up on my monitor. Talk about luck. Alterednate: Great capture, it really does speak 1000 words. Nony vogue: Wow, the lighting is amazing. This is quite the shot. I'll add it to my faves. Lynn Morag: Tt's a beautiful snapshot - just think what experiences that hand has lived through - from the turn of the century in a world when the motorcar was rarely seen, no streetlights, houses without electricity ... Cilest: Very impressive! Sensitive and beautiful light. Wish I had taken it. Swirl: Gorgeous pic :)! more proof that we outlive our bodies... Bainers: When 1 first looked at this photograph, I thought it was in black and white. But, it is not. I really like this. HKCB: A really beautiful portrait. I'm impressed. The framing and focus are excellent. Rongzoni: There is so much strength and character in this por trait - I can feel her eyes looking out across history, with tears of sadness and joy! It makes me remember my grandmother too, with great affection! Ted Foo: Beautiful and touching! What might this hand and its owner have been through in their life? Every wrinkle tells a story

Помогите с переводом пожалуйста . In 1692 Halley proposed that the geomagnetic field moved because Earth had a magnetic "nucleus or inner globe included

within ours, with a fluid medium in between." And that was the first theory of geomagnetism. (Read the paper here.) Today, we believe that the Earth's magnetic field is generated as the inner core, a sphere of solid iron inside the liquid outer core, spins out of phase with the rest of the planet. Essentially, Halley was right.
Similarly Halley made the first map of the world's winds, setting the baseline for another great field of geophysics, atmospheric dynamics. And he applied Newton's new physics to the problem of predicting the tides from the Sun and Moon's gravity. Thus he did his part for the Newtonian revolution, which united the physical laws of heaven and Earth. Along those lines, he suggested in 1694 that comets might strike the Earth, a subject he said he would "leave to be discussed by the studious of physical matters." And so we discuss cosmic impacts to this day.
PS: Halley's first geophysical voyage was the model for scientific research cruises of later years. Captain James Cook's first voyage in 1769 was made to observe a transit of Venus. Halley had proposed these observations as the best method of measuring the true distances of the Sun and planets, at the time one of science's most vexing problems. The last one was in 2004, the first since 1882; the next one is in 2012.

The Work of the Human Heart The human heart contracts from the first moment of life to the last one. The contractions of the heart pump blood through the

arteries to all the parts of the body Scientists have determined that the total weight of the blood pumped by the hemi daily is about 10 tons. Physiologists have established that in the adult the heart makes from 60 to 7,' beats per minute.4n children the rate of heartbeat is much higher. Research work of many scientists has helped to determine that the rate of heartbeat increase depending on different emotions. Each beat of the heart is followed by a period of rest for the cardiac muscle Each wave of contraction and a period of rest following it compose a cardiac cycle The period of rest is shorter during greater physical exertion and longer when the body is at rest. The physiologists called the first phase of short contraction of both atria - the atrial systole, the second phase of more prolonged contraction of both ventricles- the ventricular systole. The period of rest of the cardiac muscle is called the diastole The blood received by the left atrium from the pulmonary circulation is discharged out by the left ventricle to the systemic circulation through the aorta. The atria act as receiving chambers.

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGESTransformations are of two kinds, known as physical and chemical changes.Physical changes are those which effect the state or condition of matter withoutchanging its composition. There is no change in the composition of a substancewhen it is transformed from the liquid to the gaseous state by heating, or from theliquid to the solid state by cooling, and vice versa. Thus, in all three states, stream, water, and ice are all the same substance, made up of the simpler substances, hydrogen and oxygen. The state, but not the composition is effected by the process ofheating or cooling.By changes in the conditions of a substance are meant changes such as when asolid mass is made to fine powder, salt or sugar are dissolved in water. It is clear thatsuch transformations like the changes from one state of matter to another, do notaffect the composition of the material. The fine power of a substance may be madesolid again, and we get back the sail or sugar unchanged by evaporating the water.Chemical changes, however, are those matter changes in which changes ofcomposition does take place and the new substance formed will not return to itsoriginal state, unless it is subjected to another chemical change. Thus iron, when it iseffected by moist a ir, is slowly transformed into iron rust entirely different in itsproperties from the original iron. The new substances will not become iron againwhen it is allowed to stand, although the iron can be obtained from it if it issubjected to the proper conditions
